Critical Incident Stress Management is deployed in times of catastrophe to help those affected and witnesses to come to terms with very upsetting events.

The evidence driving the deployment is quite compelling:

• Over 80% of Americans will be exposed to traumatic events, and about 9% of these will developer Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
• About 50% of disaster workers develop significant stress.

The primary goals of the intervention are:

• Stabilization.
• Symptom Reduction.
• Get those affected back to proper functioning.
• Get follow-on care for those that need it.

Early intervention is key and simple and genuine works best.
